Fit, Fresh & Fun Forum Start R.I.G.H.T.
Start R.I.G.H.T. (Riverside Is Getting Healthy Together) is a city-wide healthy living campaign and challenge that aims to increase health knowledge and access to fitness and educational opportunities for Riverside Residents. This website acts as the home for Start R.I.G.H.T. campaign, providing information on “Eating Right,” “Moving Right,” and “Living Right” throughout the year, as well as a community calendar of healthy living events and programs. Start R.I.G.H.T. holds its annual Healthy-Living Challenge between the months of September and November, starting in 2012. The Challenge is open to all Riverside residents, and provides three-months worth of free health education and exercise programs in order to help participants start making healthy lifestyle changes and reach an optimal weight. Those enrolled in the challenge have the opportunity to win cash and other prizes for their participation and weight loss. If you are interested in enrolling in the challenge, you may sign up through the passport function on this site, which started in August, or attend the kick-off event for the challenge.
History of Start R.I.G.H.T
Start R.I.G.H.T. was born out of the City of Riverside’s Fit, Fresh, & Fun Forum, which is a group of local professionals that work together to “support a healthy environment which encourages residents to seek Fit, Fresh, and Fun alternatives for a healthy lifestyle.” Start R.I.G.H.T. was created to address the need for a systematic approach to provide education and opportunities to improve the obesity rates of residents of Riverside. Start R.I.G.H.T. is led by an ad hoc committee of the Fit, Fresh, & Fun Forum. The committee is hosted and lead by Riverside Community Health Foundation, which is committed to overseeing Start R.I.G.H.T. for the next five years. The committee is comprised of the following individuals and organizations: Stephanie Smith, Committee Chair (Riverside Community Health Foundation), Julie Thomas (American Heart Association), Karen Roberts (Kaiser Permanente), Karla Adams (Karla Adams Fitness), Dale Venaas (Riverside Medical Clinic), Cherie Russell (Riverside Community Hospital), April MacLean (City of Riverside and Room to Dance Studio), Rusty Bailey (Councilmen), Brenda Flowers (Office of the Mayor).
