|We all reach that magical age of 40+ and realize that we don’t look the way we did at 20, nor can we lose those extra pounds as quickly as we did in our youth. I’ve been very active all of my life with one sport or another until I suffered a back injury 13 years ago bringing everything to a stand still. I was told I would not be able to participate in physical sports any longer so I turned all of my focus to my career and raising 2 children; putting “ME” on the back burner. I began walking 3 years ago to try and bring some form of exercise back into my life. Now that my children are out of the house I was bored and wanted more from life. I began to watch my diet, joined a local gym and began walking with the Loma Linda Lopers. I hired a personal trainer from the local gym but was seeing no improvement in my weight or body shape. After seeing Nancy Mitchell and reading Karla’s column in the Lopergram I decided to make the call. I met Karla in May 2007, beginning my workouts and following her meal plan. To date I’ve lost 13lbs and gone down 4 sizes. I have never felt or looked as good as I do today, and I’m not done yet.
It all began with the meal plan and having to completely change my life style. I was the queen of fast food and sweets; always on the go. Karla has taught me how to plan ahead, take food with me, and to ask for food on my plan at restaurants when I don’t see something on the menu. I have been pleasantly surprised how accommodating restaurants have been in meeting my nutritional needs. Once our workout sessions started, I was able to see results after the first week. I have always felt encouraged, motivated, and safe with Karla. I had a concern regarding my back and immediately realized how extensive Karla’s knowledge and experience of the human body was. She tailored a workout schedule to insure my success, and remain injury free. I have so much respect for Karla and owe her my deepest gratitude for believing in me, encouraging me, and motivating me to become the person I have always wanted to be. I have gone from being a walker to getting ready to run my 3rd marathon this year. If you are reading this I would encourage you to take the time to meet Karla and give her the opportunity to make a difference in your life as well.
